Louise Cole

Louise has been active in CFD since 1976 when she became a W-Heels member and co-chairman of the costume committee. She has made over 200 costumes herself and assumed care and distribution of the more than 400 costumes used for the four yearly parades. During the year, Louise spends hours in the costume room, organizing, labeling, cleaning, and ensuring that they are ready for the following year. Louise enjoys sewing and designing new garments. She works long hours remaking older ones and is continually searching for countless accessories to make the costumes more authentic and accurate. Since 1976, she has increased the number of costumes in the collection from 327 costumes and 200 hats to 1188 costumes and 612 hats in addition to accessories. In 1998, she and her husband Frank helped to furnish and finance the current storage room in Barn 10 where all the costumes are currently housed. Costumes are not Louise’s only concentration at CFD. She served on the Old West Museum Board from 2000-2005 and was a part of the museum education and collections committees. She and her husband were sponsors for the chuck wagon races when they were a part of CFD and continue to sponsor a saddle for the champion bareback rider. She is never out front and although asked to serve in leadership positions, she chooses instead to work behind the scenes with pride and dedication. Whatever committee Louise serves on, the task will be completed on time, on budget, and with perfection. She is a true testament to the volunteer force that propels Cheyenne Frontier Days™ forward.
