Leonard Mayer
Leonard Mayer’s volunteer career spanned from 1946 through 2002. He served as Parade Chairman from 1951 through 1955 on the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ General Committee and took over the Contestants Chairman duties in 1956. In 1957 through 1975, he was the “Slack” announcer, handled the “Cowboy Autographs”, ran the Calf Riding, Shetland Pony Buckin’ and the Potato Race in each rodeo performance. He conducted the “Cowboy’s Prayer” Tribute at the rodeo from 1984 through 2002. Leonard originated and designed the Official Cheyenne Frontier Days™ General Committee Buckle. He wrote the early history of the HEELS, “In the Beginning”, and other articles for Cheyenne Frontier Days™ 100th Anniversary Celebration. Leonard takes tremendous pride in all the many people he started and promoted in Cheyenne Frontier Days™ activities.
