John Cole
John Cole began his volunteer career with Cheyenne Frontier Days™ in early 1950 when Parade contractor George Bruegman volunteered him to drive a single horse buggy during the parades. John drove for 6 years. During college, he stayed active in Frontier Days when he could, spending 2 years as a mugger on a team in the Wild Horse Race. In 1960, he became a member of the Grounds Committee and worked his way up the ranks to be a member of the HEELS in 1970 and Chairman of the Parade Committee. In 1973, John became the first chairman for the newly formed Security Committee and recruited volunteers to serve on that committee. When the Racing Committee and the Night Show Committee merged in 1974, John Cole became the first chairman of Contract Acts. As General Chairman in 1975 and 1976, John led the “Daddy of ‘Em All.”® He has been a member of the Contestants Committee since 1977 and has been the morning slack events announcer for the past 26 years. Over the years, John has stepped in and announced Chuckwagon racing, flat truck races as well as specialty races and events in both afternoon and evening performances. He has also announced the autograph parties after the daily rodeos for more than 20 years. John continues to be active in both Cheyenne Frontier Days™ and the Old West Museum.
