The Senior Steer Ropers Association
The Senior Steer Ropers Association was formed in 1984 with the mission of providing a venue for the steer roper over 50 to preserve this rodeo event and continue to compete. Invited to Cheyenne Frontier Days™ for the first time in 1987, over 80 members have made the trip each year since. As Ken Rockenbach, Senior Steer Ropers Association President put it, “Cheyenne is like coming home for us ‘cause everyone comes to Cheyenne.” The Senior Steer Ropers Association members compete in two go rounds that are held on Friday and Saturday that draw consistently large crowds. The top eight are invited back for Finals Sunday. Many of their members are former world champions, including; Clark McEntire, Don McLaughlin, and Shoat Webster. In keeping with their motto “Competitors Forever, Dedicated to Charity”, the Senior Steer Ropers Association donates each year to Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Scholarship Fund. Their generosity has earned them the title of rodeo’s “Goodwill Ambassadors.”
