The Linderman Family
The Linderman family is rich in its history. John and Rusty Linderman’s children John, Lup, Bud, Doug, Bill, Nook and Margaret were all active in the ranching and rodeo lifestyle. Most notably, brothers Bill and Bud and nephew, Walt made their mark in the professional rodeo world and at Cheyenne Frontier Days™. Bill was a several-event cowboy, president of the Rodeo Cowboys Association from 1951 to 1957 and secretary/treasurer from 1962 to 1965. Bud was a two-rough stock event cowboy and Walt, a steer wrestler. All three of these Lindermans held Cheyenne Frontier Days™ championships: Bud as Saddle Bronc Riding Champ in 1945 and 1950, and as Bareback Riding Champ in 1951 as well as All Around Cowboy in 1950 and 1951; Bill as Bareback Riding Champ in 1945; and Walt as Steer Wrestling Champ in 1966 and All Around Cowboy in 1967. The PRCA’s Linderman Award was named in honor of Bill and is one of the most prestigious honors in ProRodeo, recognizing each year’s outstanding athlete. The Linderman family, extending over the generations, has been very supportive of the rodeo careers in their family.
