Orville Strandquist

Orville Strandquist began racing chuckwagons in 1939. His career spans over 50 years and numerous rodeos in both the United States and Canada. He begun competing at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ in 1960, competing in both the Chuckwagon races and the Wild Horse Race. He won the Wild Horse Race three consecutive years from 1970 through 1972. In 1975, he won the CFD chuckwagon race at age 55. During his career in Cheyenne, he has cracked the top 5 several times and was in the top 3 in two of his years at CFD. A “great hand,” always anxious to help CFD any way he could. Orville retired from CFD competition in the Wild Horse race after the 1981 show at the age of 61 and from Chuckwagon racing in 1992 at the age of 72. As Orville entered the arena, the announcer would say “Orville paid his entry fee with his social security check.”
