Larry Mahan
A favorite at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Larry Mahan turned the sport of rodeo into a business. Beginning his career in Oregon Mahan went on to win the All-Around Champion Cowboy title for five consecutive years. Competing in saddle bronc riding bareback riding and bull riding Mahan took the saddle bronc riding title at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ in 1968 and the bull riding title in 1970. He was one of the first cowboys to fly his own plane beginning a new era of the rodeo star one who could easily and quickly get to his next circuit stop. Expanding his image Mahan developed rodeo riding schools publications and his own brand of western clothing. Once called the “cowboy in the gray flannel suit” Larry Mahan made rodeo his business earning over $500000 in 16 years and retiring from active rodeo a wealthy man.
