Buddy Bensmiller
Buddy Bensmiller is one of the greatest chuckwagon racers of all time. Hailing from Dewberry, Alberta, Canada, Buddy is known throughout the chuckracing world as the “Dewberry Rocket.” An eight-time Canadian Pro champion as well as nine-time Calgary Stampede finalist, he continues to compete throughout North America. He holds many titles, including one of Calgary’s most prestigious honors, the Guy Weadick Award. Since 1982, Buddy has been a force at Cheyenne Frontier Days™, winning the championship a record nine times from 1982 to 1984, again in 1987 and 1989, 1991 through 1993 and again in 1995. According to Shirley Flynn’s book, “Let’s Go, Let’s Show, Let’s Rodeo”, Buddy traveled to Cheyenne with his family each year and set up camp, making the trip a family event. He enjoyed the competition at Cheyenne, the good facilities and said, “We like to come here.”
