Ruby Mercer
Choosing Cheyenne as their home after they sold the family business, Ruby and her husband Poddy became active in Cheyenne Frontier Days™. As a volunteer, Ruby and her husband loaned their limousine and offered it for use by Cheyenne Frontier Days™ to transport dignitaries and VIPs during the show. Using her influence with her entertainment family, Ruby was able to bring her sister, Jaye P. Morgan and her brothers to Cheyenne to make personal appearances and visit the city. In 1987, Ruby was instrumental in reviving the “Howdy Folks” at Cheyenne Frontier Days™, purchasing the first Howdy House and the outfits that these information specialists wear each year. Beginning with sixteen members, this group has grown to over fifty dedicated people who meet, greet, assist and escort people around the “Daddy of ‘em All” each and every July. As part of her volunteering with the Public Relations Committee, Ruby coordinated the plans for the downtown buses on the day the Denver Post Train rolls into town and assisted with arranging rides for the visiting rodeo queens. Serving over eighteen years with Cheyenne Frontier Days™, Ruby was also the first woman to serve as assistant to the chairman of the Public Relations Committee.
