Ken McCann
A native of Cheyenne, Ken McCann was raised within a few blocks of Cheyenne
Frontier Days™. Growing up, McCann said Frontier Park and CFD were his equivalent of Disneyland.
"My most favorite part of Cheyenne Frontier Days as a kid was the parade going right in front of our house," McCann said.
In 1969, he joined members of a young men's group, who regularly volunteered at CFD. After parking cars, selling programs and fulfilling various other assignments, he was asked to sign on for the Racing Committee.
By the 1980s, he was a senior judge for the Chuck Wagon races and continued after the Racing Committee joined the Night Show Committee to become Contract Acts. In 1984 McCann was Contract Acts Committee ' Assistant and elected into the HEELS.
Five years later, he served as Lead ·Assistant as well as serving two terms on the CFD Board of Directors from 1995-2001.
In 2003, he was appointed General Chairman of CFD and quickly left his mark. Under his guidance, the chutes and stands received several upgrades in addition to the use of new technology for the night shows. He supervised significant improvements for the Indian Village, park facilities and new concessions vendors in effort to improve the visitors' and volunteers' experiences while at CFD. McCann said he was honored to appoint the first woman to serve on the CFD Committee: Lynne Boomgaarden.
McCann currently volunteers with the CFD Western Art Show and Sale as well as serves on the Crisis Fund Board. He has been a member of the CFD Old West Museum Board and continues to volunteer on the Museum's behalf.
"It's a color blind event," McCann said about volunteering at CFD. Whether "white, black, green, blue, men or women," people come from all walks of life to work together and have a good time for 10 days out of the year, McCann said.
"CFD gives the people of Cheyenne and the surrounding area something to be proud of," McCann said. "And, it's made possible by volunteers."
