John Morris
John Morris came to Wyoming as a football athlete. He met and married Norma Bell, Miss Frontier 1949, whose father Frank and uncle John Bell were also very involved in Cheyenne Frontier Days™. John helped with stock that the family provided and he worked under Harold “Beetles” Wright. In the late 1950s he was asked to be Night Show Arena Director, a position he held for over thirty years. John provided calves for roping and Mexican steers for dogging events. The cattle drive we see today was started by John as a form of economics, it was cheaper for John and his daughters to drive in the cattle than truck them in. John and his wife Norma hosted the artists’ party for the CFD Western Art Show at the Shellback Ranch, a tradition that continues today. John has been involved in Frontier Days in one way or another for sixty plus years and his service has greatly contributed to the success of the show.
