Dan Hough
Dan Hough began volunteering for Cheyenne Frontier Days™ in 1964 while still in high school. He initially served with the Park Police, then joined the Grounds Committee, and later assisted at the arena's wheel gate.
After graduating college in 1974, Dan became a foot marshal with the Parades Committee. Within five years, he was promoted to Assistant, overseeing VIPs, rodeo queens, and the recruitment of marching bands from across the country.
Dan also played a key role in managing the pre-night show acts. In one memorable instance, he gave up a scheduled performance of the national anthem by Bill Dubois to allow a contestant’s young redheaded daughter to sing—her name was Reba.
In 1983, Dan was elected into the HEELs, and by 1987 his deep knowledge and leadership earned him the role of Lead Assistant of the Parades Committee. He was known for implementing innovative approaches to improve safety and enhance the overall parade experience.
Dan served as Parades Chairman from 1989 to 1991. During his tenure, he led several major initiatives, including the renovation of the Dazee Bristol float section, overseeing the installation of CFD’s signature street decorations, organizing the Wyoming Centennial Parade featuring President George H. W. Bush as Grand Marshal, and establishing the Carriage Coordinating Committee to help preserve the park’s historic carriages.
Following his chairmanship, Dan and his wife Kay remained active in leadership roles with the Buckle Club, the CFD Old West Museum Board, and the Western Art Show. Dan passed away in 2023, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication and service to Cheyenne Frontier Days™.
