Charles D. Carey Jr.
A long time supporter of Cheyenne Frontier Days™, he served as Chairman of the event in 1959 and 1960. In 1960, the Planning and Show Committees instituted the Sunday Rodeo with mixed community support. It resulted in a banner year for the event, totaling over $28,000 in net income. The Sunday rodeo was here to stay. During his tenure as chairman, Senator Lyndon Johnson visited along with Rex Allen and 4,000 Boy Scouts. He earned the Public Relations Committee’s “Man of the Month” title in July 1959 and became President of the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Planning committee in 1961. The grandson of Governor Joseph Carey and father Charles Carey, who was a CFD committeeman and judge, Charles D. Carey Jr. continued a legacy of commitment, bringing CFD into the era of the 1960s with recorded net profits and a plan for continued growth. He donated the Carey Mail Coach to the parade collection and paid for its restoration.
