The Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Western Art Show Committee 1981-2013
Wilford Brimley and Sen. Cynthia Lummis. Although many have invested in the Western Art Show and Sale's legacy ,Jones said S. George and Hele~ Binson's contributions were beyond extraordinary. During Jones' tour of the western art show circuit, he said he met the Binsons in line to purchase a painting, which led to a discussion about the burgeoning Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale. Having met and married while stationed at Fort Francis E. Warren (now F.E. Warren Air Force Base) in Cheyenne during World War II, the Binsons often thought about revisiting, Jones said. The Binsons quickly became a pillar of the show. When Mr. Binson died in 2007, his family donated their western art collection to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum for all to enjoy.
Looking back through nearly four decades, Jones said he believed the largest factor in the art show's success was becoming a social tradition for the community as well as promoting a cultural kickoff to CFD. To date, the Western Art Show and Sale has raised more than $2.7 million for the museum. "We've earned our place on the street,"Jones said proudly.
