Dr. J.E. "Jack" Ketcham
As a young man, Jack Ketcham participated at CFD working with stock contractor C.B. Irwin and others, as a contestant and as an outrider for the parades. He also had pony rings and he provided horses to the rodeo. From 1948 through the 1990s, Dr. Jack Ketcham served Cheyenne Frontier Days™ as Head Arena and Night Show veterinarian, track veterinarian, Chief Humane Officer and Health Inspector. He was elected to the HEELS organization in 1957. In 1966 Dr. Ketcham was instrumental in organizing the Dinner Bell Derby which he and his family entered for over 30 years. As a co-founder of the Cheyenne Sheriffs’ Posse Parade and Security, Search and Rescue group, Doc Ketcham and others acted as goodwill ambassadors for Cheyenne Frontier Days™ riding in the parades and providing horseback security on the grounds in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
