Buddy Lytle
An Oklahoma native, Ronald Lee “Buddy” Lytle learned to rope and ride on the family farm. He became active in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association as a competitor prior to becoming a field representative who trained prospective judges. He served in this capacity for 40 years. Lytle also developed and wrote (with Jack Hannum, a PRCA supervisor) the PRCA’s rulebook. At Cheyenne Frontier Days™, Buddy was a judge and one of the unsung heroes of rodeo, without whom there would be no event. He served in this capacity for over 25 years, until November 2001. He was known for his hard work, keen perception, fairness, and sense of humor, making him popular with contestants, contractors and rodeo officials. Buddy’s favorite part of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ were the people he met, the friends he made and sitting around the office after the competition “shooting the breeze.”
