William "Obie" Obermeier
William 'Obie' Obermeier began volunteering for Frontier Days at the age of ten years-old. A cousin to Paul Bruegaman, Obie was part of the team of people who produced the carriage section of the CF@ parades. He was responsible for caring for the horses, helping harness them, bringing the teams, carriages and wagons to the
parade route, out riding and driving for the carriages in the parades. He did
this for many years under the tutelage of George Bruegeman, later assisting
Paul Bruegeman. Due to an untimely accident, Obie assumed the daunting responsibility of coordinating the carriage section of the parades. The parades went on without a hitch that year due to Obie's efficient leadership.
Obie was an out rider for the Chuck wagon races for the Paul Bruegeman wagon from 1971 to 1978. In 1974 and 1975 Obie also drove his own chuck wagon and team, competing in the races. In addition to competing in the "Thunder from the North;' he was a contestant in the single steer roping at Cheyenne Frontier Days for several years.
Although Obie has a full time job, he is the man in charge of making sure the arena is ready for the rodeo before, during and after Cheyenne Frontier Days. He is responsible for hauling, packing sand and dirt, blading, leveling, mud and water removal. Obie is at the arena each and every day of CFD to make sure it is in
order.
Obie has served Frontier Days with a level of dedication, talent, colorful sense of humor and leadership that is respected by all who know him. Obie's 45 years of tireless involvement is remarkable.
