Ora N. "Dutch" Buckles

Dutch Buckles served Cheyenne as Grounds Chairman in 1959 and 1960. As General Chairman (1961-1963) he instituted the coveted Cheyenne Buckle and the trophy for CFD™ Champions. Up to that time, contestants won saddles, spurs, hats and other items. Since 1961, the unique Cheyenne Champion Buckle stands out as one of the most sought after and honored trophies in professional rodeo featuring fourteen carat gold wreaths, the Frontier Days logo at each corner, and a banner declaring the name and event of the winner. Under his leadership, CFD™ adopted the famous arrowhead bucking horse and “revers D CF” brand as the official registered brand and logo for Cheyenne Frontier Days™. He investigated and revamped the accounting practices for Frontier Days, turning CFD™ into a business venture.
