E.O. Davis
E.O. Davis saw his first Frontier Days as a young man in 1949, having just moved from Denver to Cheyenne. He became hooked. In 1950, he volunteered to assist in handling the “bucking books,” taking the marks from the judges to be recorded into the official log book. One year later, he was promoted to Clerk of Course. E.O. Davis was elected to the HEELS in 1960 and held two of three positions of leadership in that group. He was asked to be Contestants Chairman in 1967 and he held that position until 1970, when he took over as General Chairman. During his administration, Cheyenne Frontier Days™ grew and expanded, with new B grandstands that were complete by 1971. After seeing the Pendelton rodeo precision riding group, Davis asked Arlene Kensinger to train twelve young women to ride a serpentine in the arena during the Grand Entry. The Dandies, today acting as the goodwill ambassadors for CFD™, still ride the serpentine in the Grand Entry. In 1971, Davis added one parade and three days to the celebration, turning Frontier Days into a nine-day event.
