Colonel E.A. Slack
As the editor of the Cheyenne Sun-Leader E.A. Slack was instrumental in boosting the image and celebration of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ in its early years. The birth of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ has been attributed to the idea brought to Col. Slack by the Union Pacific Traveling Passenger Agent Frederick Angier. Angier suggested that Cheyenne have a festival and he would provide an excursion train full of people from Denver. Col. Slack promoted the idea and a month later the first Frontier Day was born starting a tradition that has lasted 106 years. Serving on the Committee for Frontier Days from 1902-1905 Colonel E.A. Slack continued to be a booster for the rodeo until his death in 1907.
