Paul Bruegman

Paul began his affiliation with Frontier Days at an early age. By the time he was 4 years old, he was invited to help his father and other cowboys drive the parade horses to the grounds. He never missed another drive after the age of 5. By 1953 at the age of 7, he and his trusted horse Queenie had a wagon in the parade. In 1961, Paul was signed on by stock contractor Harry Knight to lead broncs out of the arena: Knight was so impressed that he took Paul on as a pickup man the next year. 1962 was a big year for Paul as he also became the youngest competitive chuckwagon driver in history. In fact, Paul was the first and only U.S. chuckwagon driver at Cheyenne for the next 16 years, finishing twelve times in the top eight. His ties to Cheyenne Frontier Days™ continued as he took over the annual parade horse contract from his father in 1971. He was responsible for rounding up the 104 horses to pull the wagons and arranging and fitting those animals in harness. He was in charge of the arena night shows in 1985 and 1987.
